My name is Doug. I guess you could say I work in Bars. I used to work in Bars. I don’t know what that’s about anymore, fucking A. I walked by a restaurant the other day, and the server was dressed up in body armor. The customers were drunk.
I also write a bit. I’m not good at it. That’s not a humble brag. I can barely sit still. I’m like a little yapping dog. I’m sure there are drugs for that, but the economy! I have a blargh on tumblr, but you know how that goes. You come in hoping one of the gawker people notice you, you end up spending (XX) years on there posting something you saw on twitter. This will be the place for my super serious writing (Such as any writing is super serious, it’s all words Words WORDS).
What do I write about? I don’t know. I’ve got numerous interests. History being the big thing. I’ve been told I have insights into the human condition, but that’s mostly hogwash. I see things and say “SOMEONE SHOULD DO SOMETHING” then get horny sad and depressed about something else. I criticize someone on the street, then trip over a crack in the sidewalk, spilling Mandarin Orange Red Bull everywhere. Ain’t none of us are perfect. The only thing I’ve got going for me is that I’ve spent 39 years in this shell and I’m just getting over teenage anxiety. Kind of.
One of these days I’ll have the unearned confidence of the mediocre. I’ll make it a new years resolution.
Anyway come here to read things, feel free NOT to comment, just sit back and enjoy. I’ll try my best to be fair. Also I like a lot of good music and have good taste in things, so feed off my trough of esoteric knowledge.
SOME DAMN GOOD TAKES
I’m really happy that defector, the Deadspin Phoenix, has entered my life. I really missed all those people and I’m willing to buy their shirt and wear it out in public.
Football is back but I don’t have to fucking work next to the stadium for the games. Does that mean I’m watching football again? No, football is a tragic combination of everything sad about America. The Big Ten, on the verge of taking a stand, decided they’re shameless enough to go back on their word. Empty Stadium sports are thin places. I will not elaborate.
I was really excited to see Bill and Ted Face the Music, but something about coronavirus has made me ehhhhh about watching new movies. I was a theater guy, I loved paying my 9-25 dollars to sit down around a bunch of people sitting on seats that’ve seen their fair share of asses, and absorbing a bucket of popcorn before the Let’s All Go to The Lobby jingle. Can’t do that anymore, and frankly, Covid has made me rethink all those communal experiences that were just awash in disease. See passing around a bong, Concerts, Weddings.
Last movie I saw in theaters was Cats. People ask me all the time, is Cats worth seeing? Only in theaters friends, only in theaters.
Doesn’t appear like you can link videos on this thing? Anyway I’ve been really getting into this Ferris Wheel song by Sylvan Esso. A nice summer song, released just in time for fall, about doing things outside and human contact. Miss those things. :(
That’s all for now, I’ll keep in touch.
